Reiki (pronounced ray' key) is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Force Energy".
It is an ancient form of healing, believed to have originated in Tibet.
The Reiki method was lost for many years until it was rediscovered by
Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1920s, after many years of searching and study.
Reiki utilizes the Life Force Energy around us to promote healing of the body,
mind, and spirit. It is a powerful form of healing that uses specific
techniques and hand positions for restoring and balancing your natural life force
energy. Reiki provides a healing balance of energy to harmonize the body, mind, emotions, and spirit of the recipient of this healing energy. Because of this, the recipient may experience sensations in her/his body in places other than where the Practitioner's hands are located. The recipient may also experience a mild emotional reaction, without quite knowing why. All of these experiences are perfectly normal and they are simply indications that the Reiki energy is going where it is needed most. Also, because your healing needs may differ from one Reiki Session to the next, you may find your experiences with Reiki may differ from one session to the next as well. Again, this is perfectly normal, because Reiki provides you with the healing energy you need at that specific time, to assist you in your healing process. Another point to remember is that the Practitioner serves as the vessel to channel the Reiki energy from the Universe or Higher Source to the recipient, and is not the source of the healing energy. Reiki works by allowing the body to draw the universal life force energy into itself, and encouraging the body to balance its own energy system. Because of the Nature of Reiki energy, many people feel that to truly understand Reiki, it needs to be experienced. As with any form of healing or therapy, the real test is in its effectiveness to the recipient, and that criteria should be the determining factor when making decisions about Reiki treatments. |
